Fika: More than just a coffee break?

It has to be said that pastry is one of our favourite subjects here at Posture People HQ. The word can’t be uttered without the office coming to a standstill and little faces popping up from behind their standing desks.

Although sweet treats and coffee are not commonly associated with workplace wellness, we recently came across Fika, the Swedish art of a coffee break. But don’t be fooled, it’s so much more than your every day 11 am hot drink, it’s a social institution in its native home of Sweden.

Fika is all about taking a few minutes to slow down, relax and appreciate the good things in life with your colleagues or loved ones over a tasty pastry and a freshly brewed cup of coffee. In Sweden, this is a nationwide morning and sometimes afternoon affair where they slow down to embrace and spend some quality time with one another.

This is something that we can definitely get on board with, especially as the evenings draw in. Although the office is often bustling, we are going to try and spend at least one day a week where we can down tools together and make the time to socialize with one another.

We highly recommend you give it a go (as if you needed convincing). Why not try some of the healthier recipes we’ve collected over on our Pinterest?
